Sing, Sing a Song

April 27th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Maybe it’s just the tune that sticks, but hopefully the words of praise songs matter a lot more too us. There have been times in my life when lyrics seemed to encompass what I’m thinking and how I’m feeling at the moment. These lyrics include:

  • The nails in Your hands, the nails in Your feet, they tell me how much You love me … Forever my love, forever my heart, forever my life is Yours. (Junior high retreat during Easter vacation. This song accompanied one of the first times I was seriously moved by Jesus’ suffering for me.)
  • Even oceans and their waves bow at Your feet (Retreat during my senior year of high school. I was standing outside alone early in the morning in awe God’s power while watching crashing waves against the backdrop of big sky. At the time, I was dealing with a lot. The Bible passage in Luke 8 hit me first, and this song followed.)
  • I will worship You Lord, only You Lord (Freshman year of college while I was struggling with living in a new environment and new people.)

How about you? Have there been any times when God seemed to have spoken to you through song?

1 big good thing about the traditional 401(k) is you travel to take contributions out of your taxable earnings in the year you come to these products. Yet this option isn’t a seriously free of charge meal: if you choose take on money away, any penny is normally tax with ordinary tax costs. Of which suggests they have worth contemplating not one but two tax-minimization methods.
